Control over RS232

Where an AV control system already switches lighting, projector and screen, it takes on the training system as well over the serial interface.

RS232

What the serial interface replaces in the room

RS232 is a serial interface on the instructor module of the training system through which an existing AV control system issues the same commands as a control panel from EBS — with no additional hardware in the rack.

The command set is handed over documented. Programming the control system stays with the integrator who is fitting out the room in any case; the training system appears there as one more device alongside projector, matrix and sound system.

A control element from EBS is therefore not essential. In rooms where instructors already operate a panel belonging to the building services, the serial route saves a second interface — and the briefing that otherwise goes with it.

Integration

One more device in the existing panel

The commands switch the same functions as the touch panel: which workstation receives which image, which source is present at the instructor position, when the workstations stay dark. The integrator places them on the control interface already in use in the building.

Existing installations

No second interface in the room

Rooms whose media technology has grown over the years usually have a control panel the instructors are used to. When a training system is added, it has to be sorted into that panel rather than placed beside it — otherwise two panels stand on the same desk.

The interface sits on the instructor module of the installation and is present whether or not a control element from EBS is installed as well.

Quotation

Protocol description for the planning stage

Anyone putting the AV control system out to tender needs the command set before the award. The description is handed over on request, even if the installation has not yet been ordered.
