What a 2x2 switcher and splitter does
A 2x2 switcher and splitter connects two video sources to two displays and works either as a splitter that duplicates one picture onto both screens, as a switcher between two sources, or as a small matrix with free assignment.
The picture is carried uncompressed. There is no encoding to cost time and no buffer to hold it back, so when it is duplicated onto a projector and a rear-wall display, both screens carry the same picture at the same moment.
Switching is done with a button or in automatic mode. Where nobody is meant to operate a control – at a secondary screen, in an unstaffed equipment room – the unit takes the source that is present by itself.
The sockets are DVI-D and can be screwed down, and what is transmitted is an HDMI signal including audio. In a fixed installation whose cabling nobody touches again afterwards, a screwed connection lasts better than a plugged-in one.

The sockets are DVI-D and what is transmitted is an HDMI signal with audio. For more than two sources or more than two screens, the way leads to the 6x2 switcher or the 4x4 matrix switcher.
In use
Where two screens are to show the same thing
The most common case is duplication: the projector stands at the front, a display for the back rows hangs at the rear, and both receive the same picture from the same source. The second input stays free for the guest notebook that comes in at the touch of a button.
